Another year, another World Conference. This time it was held in Monterey, CA, just about a 4 1/2 hour drive up the coast from the office in Camarillo. It was a nice week. Some of us took our bikes and we were up at 5:15 AM to go riding along what is called 17-Mile Drive and past Pebble Beach each morning. We had a nice event at the Aquarium Monday night, and great dinners throughout the week. The first few images are some snaps with my camera phone at dinner.
The conference ran through Thursday, but then a couple of the managers had asked me to stay Friday to meet with a customer. Unfortunately those managers had not told the customer about this arrangement, and they left early Friday. I had car-pooled with Dave, however, who was staying until Saturday for some meetings of his own, so I had the day Friday to myself. I made a quick trip to Salinas and checked out the Steinbeck Museum, and then came back to Monterey and walked past the wharf and down past Cannery Row to the Aquarium again.
The most amazing thing to me was how the sea lions blended in with the rocks. You could hear them barking from the hotel at night, but then when you first look around the shore all you see are boulders. But then you realize that some of them have eyes, and then you see a head or a flipper move, and you gradually realize that there can be dozens of them in some spots.
I also looked up a friend, Chooi, who I had met around LA last year and who had since moved to Monterey. We went biking north of town on Saturday morning. Dave managed to finish around noon Saturday so we had lunch and then headed home.
