For Halloween this year, I tried to carve this image of George W. Bush playing guitar:
For those of you who are not familiar with it, the above was taken a couple of days after hurricane Katrina flooded New Orleans. Not that I blame Bush for the hurricane, but it sure does have Nero-esque/fiddle while Rome is burning quality to it.
Anyway, here are the results:
You can tell it is someone playing guitar, but I did not get a big enough pumpkin to carve a good likeness of George. I think I did a lot better last year when I just did Dick Cheney. You can see that one at http://www.lprezdente.net/photos/2004/Halloween/index.htm.
Then later on Sunday night I got dressed up in my costume to head for the contra dance in Santa Barbara. (Don't know what contra is? See http://www.sbcds.org).This year I decided to go cheap and just wear one of my biking jerseys and bike shorts, but I also got a blood and gore makeup kit to make it look like I had an accident. One of my biking buddies commented that it did not even look like a costume, since I have had a few accidents while out riding and come back with real road rash plenty of times. In fact, I even took the old helmet I had cracked from when I broke my collarbone and smashed it up a little bit more to add that extra touch. I was surprised, but some people at the dance were a little grossed out and thought I was too realistic. What do you think?
I definitely had fun, and I think I will be Road Rash Boy again someday (hopefully just with makeup and not the natural way), but I might wait a few years and try something else in 2006.
