Business went well on this trip so instead of working Friday morning before my flight I managed to sneak away Thursday evening and do some sightseeing. I took the train out to Versailles and toured around the outside of the palace (or Château, as they call it) and the huge surrounding gardens with their many fountains and sculptures.
These next few shots are of a church and the Hôtel de Ville (city hall) in Versailles.
Friday morning I got up early and walked several kilometers back into the gardens to take pictures of the Grand Trianon and Petit Trianon, which I had missed the night before. In between I found this Hameau (hamlet?) of older cottages.
I thought about going inside the palace, but it did not open until 9 so I would only be able to spend about an hour inside. I needed to catch one of the trains between 10 and 10:30 in order to make it back to the airport around noon for my 2 PM flight. I figured an hour would not get me far so instead I hopped on an earlier train and stopped at La Tour Eiffel and took a walk around the block.
There was hardly anyone waiting in line but I did not have time to go up anyway. Just then the clouds rolled in and it started to rain, anyway, so I headed back to the station. C'est la vie.
