Tiger Tales

August 11, 2002

This was my first trip to Comerica Park in Detroit. It is a beautiful stadium, with very nice architecture, good site lines, and amenities like old Tiger stadium never had, like the carousel with all of the various tiger figures.

It just did not feel as cozy and intimate as Tiger Stadium though. Tiger stadium was all about baseball and watching the game, nothing else. With the giant scoreboard and all of the other advertising space, it just feels too commercial, like it is all about money.

As to the game, the Detroit starter Powell pitched well, and took a 2-0 lead into the 8th. But he tired and allowed the first two batters to reach, then the bullpen came in and blew it. Detroit lost 3-2 to Baltimore.
