Day 3: Cabrillo National Monument is at the entrance to San Diego harbor. Juan Cabrillo was the first European to set foot in California. He landed in San Diego on September 28, 1542. There had been a festival marking the anniversary the day before we were there, and the San Diego Zoo was going to have free admission on this day, but we already had tickets anyway, so we decided to avoid the crowd and spend the day at Sea World instead. After that we went downtown for a "fancy" seafood dinner, valet parking and all. I enjoyed it but it was the first of several dinners that were pooh-poohed by the critics. I guess I just wanted to have a sense of adventure, since it was vacation after all.
